Verallia has been working with Dawsongroup for almost a decade. It is the European leader and the world’s third largest producer of glass packaging for beverages and food products, creating some of the most innovative and bespoke glass packaging for the spirits industry and working with some of the biggest names such as Heinz, Greene King and Diageo.
Having started with just a few assets, Dawsongroup’s Smarter Asset Strategy for Verallia has supported its growth and, as a result, the majority of its warehousing equipment is now supplied by Dawsongroup. Darren Kirkham, Warehouse and Material Handling Account Supervisor, said, “We began replacing other equipment as contracts came to their end and, after building a solid relationship, now the majority is covered by Dawsongroup.”
Verallia has two production sites in the UK which create 2000 pallets every 24 hours, with 900 bottles per pallet, 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. Sarah Black, Area Sales Executive for Dawsongroup material handling and account manager for Verallia, said, “Since taking over the account I have had a great relationship with Darren and helped to provide solutions and sort out any problems as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Three Solutions Out of One
Dawsongroup supplies Smarter Asset Strategy solutions from three of our business units. Dawsongroup material handling provides both diesel and electric forklifts, with capacities ranging from 1.5 to 3.5 tonne, which manage a range of requirements involved in the manufacturing and distribution of glass products. From Dawsongroup truck and trailer, four curtainside trailers help transportation across the sites and Dawsongroup emc provides ride on industrial super scrubbers, keeping their warehouses clean and maintaining health and safety standards.
Before our solutions were in place, Verallia were having a lot of breakdowns due to equipment not lasting with the intensity of operations. They required equipment that could be used for multi-shift operations for more than 80 hours per week. By putting together a more bespoke deal, we enabled Verallia to work as productively as possible.
Tim Abraham, Managing Director of Dawsongroup material handling, said, “Dawsongroup guarantees asset availability and uptime and has a replacement plan based on the effective life of the equipment rather than the contract term. This provides the customer with a constantly refreshed and reliable front-line fleet with high availability, as well as a second-life fleet created by ex-frontline machines transitioning to less duty or support equipment status, which balances total life cost.”
“We have a very strong relationship with Verallia,” said Brogan Gardener, Industrial Sales Executive North for emc, “and we reliably and reactively provide solutions to improve their health and safety by reducing the risk of accidents.”
Paving the Way to Sustainability
Sustainability is a part of everything Verallia does. Looking ahead to the future, Verallia recognises the magnitude of the global challenges companies will face and is committed to defining what the future of glass packaging looks like. Dawsongroup’s Smarter Asset Strategy supports growth and adaptability towards a sustainable future and has helped Verallia on its journey by supplying the newest technology with a reliable and quick turnaround. Dawsongroup understands sustainability is key to futureproofing business operations and staying ahead of the game, and together with Verallia has provided bespoke solutions that achieve these aims.
“We always discuss future technologies during our review meetings,” said Tim Abraham, “ensuring that Verallia has the most up-to-date and reliable technology available and can make informed decisions about how they operate.”
Through discussions about future technologies at the regular material handling review meetings, we have provided information about topics such as lithium battery options for the core counterbalance fleet as well as automation solutions. These discussions ensure that Verallia has the most up-to-date and reliable technology available and can make informed decisions about how it operates. In addition to this, Dawsongroup emc recently supplied a solution to assist the company’s aim of sustainability by providing them with the means to recycle as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Maximising Productivity
24-hour-a-day operations mean that Verallia need excellent service and reliable equipment to ensure maximum uptime and productivity. Sarah Black said, “We make sure we go above and beyond when sourcing equipment on fast time scales, which is key to Verallia running efficiently 24/7. Dawsongroup’s innovative solutions, including redistributing equipment and our service teams’ quarterly review meetings and maintenance, ensure that Verallia’s productivity and uptime have reached their full potential.”
Darren Kirkham said, “Better service and a faster speed of repair from Dawsongroup has improved our productivity significantly.” This was a key factor in Verallia’s decision to not only stay, but also expand its equipment provision with Dawsongroup, especially during the global pandemic and ongoing supply chain problems.
